Police attack on peaceful demonstrators Ankara, Turkey 28 October 2013
THE FIRE THIS TIME
I have seen and read enough. People everywhere, we live in a fascist world with darkening Nazi overtones. If you don't think so look at the police that protect us. Look at its heavy weaponry, its hidden video and audio surveillance systems, its vicious disposition. Look at the obscene street lighting that turns mysterious, glorious evenings into the sickly blur of stark florescent prisons. The essence of curiosity lies in shadows. There are no longer shadows in the city, or perhaps anywhere. When and where have you last stared at the stars?
Why is this? The answer is simple. It seems that the Pentagon, in its infinite wisdom, has concluded that future wars will be in the cities. And its many weapons customers have hastened to protect themselves. These customers are also called countries. It’s happening now, this city-war. Car bombs don’t explode in pastures or corn fields. Baghdad, Damascus, Beirut, these are where the Pentagon draws its lessons, always fighting yesterday’s battle. Always wasting money and lives. And who will this urban enemy be? It is us. Look again at the photograph at the top of the page. They are us. We are them.
Why us? The answer is simple. Because we now know how pathetically incompetent and how stunningly violent our leaders are. We also now know the depth of their deceit. And while they don’t like this very much, all the tear gas in the universe won’t disperse this crowd of facts from our minds. This war has already come to us in Turkey. And it will soon be America’s turn.Too arrogant to properly manage its own domestic and international affairs, America has bankrupted morally. So proud of their surveillance technology, undiplomatic America’s has betrayed the trust of all its diplomatic friends.
But there’s nastier stuff going on. To do its dirty work, America relies on its overseas cadre of well-bribed political thugs. We all know this. It has been happening for years. But now we really know because all the evidence is in plain sight. People, please do not consider this matter routine. Do not be deceived. We, all of us who think and feel and long for peace, all of us are in danger of extermination. It too is happening now. Emotionally, intellectually and physically we are all being drained and plundered. But there is something coming. Something big, so big that even the Pentagon will be powerless to combat it. Gezi Park was merely the wispy smoke from a long-dormant volcano, now deeply stirring. Eruption is inevitable, a natural conclusion.
And then behold how it blows apart that plunderers' cabal called "capitalistic democracy." And then behold how this purifying firestorm will cleanse. See how it deals with all those so-confident thieves of national treasures. And then behold the fate of all those despicable rapists of nature. The conscienceless ones who destroyed trees and wildlife and rivers and mountains and fertile fields all for their own obscene gain. We surely know that fat cat politicians and the belly-scratching patrons have no hint of what is bound to come. And it will be terrible. And it will be wonderful.
And Obama, the long-ago hope of the suffering, bleeding world who only bled us more and drained our hope, he too will finally see. Obama, now like an omnipresent god, killing from the sky and hearing all earthly conversations and messages. Let him monitor this message. And let him remember the words of the Negro spiritual: "God gave Noah the rainbow sign, no more water but the fire next time.”
And from these purifying fires will emerge justice and tolerance and honesty and dignity. Peace will come at last and there will be a great joy in the morning.
