“It would not be impossible to prove with sufficient repetition and a psychological understanding of the people concerned that a square is in fact a circle. They are mere words, and words can be molded until they clothe ideas and disguise.”
“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”
(left) Joseph Goebbels speaking in Berliner Lustgarten in 1932 against the outcome of the Conference of Lausanne
"Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan ordered his ambassadors on Wednesday to confront allies with the 'truth' that a graft investigation shaking Ankara was the result of a foreign-backed plot to sabotage Turkey's international standing."
"Erdogan said politicians, domestic and foreign media and financiers were conspiring against Turkish interests."
"We expect you to exert more effort to defeat this treacherous operation targeting Turkey by telling our partners the truth," Erdogan told the conference of Turkish ambassadors in the capital Ankara."
When the Reichstag burned on the night of 27 February, Hitler blamed a Communist plot. That was enough and it was nonsense. The day after the blaze he signed emergency legislation that suspended most civil liberties in Germany. Communists were purged, their political party (17% of the vote) suppressed and banned from voting in the coming election. This would give Hitler an absolute majority in parliament. A month later (23 March 1933) the Nazis passed an Enabling Act which allowed Hitler to pass laws by decree. Hitler became dictator of Germany. The Reichstag fire was as phony as…Ergenkon. And today’s war between Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Fethullah Gülen is as phony as... the Reichstag fire.
It's a war both phony and dangerous, like the protagonists. The AKP and Recep Tayyip
Erdoğan have conspired from their very beginnings with the subversive forces of
Fethullah Gülen. There is no doubt about this. It's open knowledge. And aided and abetted by the American
government and its CIA, this malignant “combined arms team” of destruction has
done its job well. Together, this obscenity has destroyed the Turkish Armed Forces
in pathetically bogus coup plot schemes called Ergenekon and Balyoz. And therein, Erdoğan proudly called himself
“the chief prosecutor,” so proud he was to lead this profound miscarriage of justice, and perhaps treason. What followed was an abortion of all accepted democratic legal principles. And
he and Gülen were partners in this crime against the nation and its people. Last year’s Gezi Park demonstrations, a peaceful, legally assembled protest against the AKP’s relentless destruction of green space in Istanbul, quickly turned violent under the stone-handed Erdoğan and the Gülen-controlled police force. Thousands of protestors were brutally gassed, beaten, stabbed and shot with bullets both rubber and real, 8000 injured, scores blinded, six murdered. America supplied much of the gas, the American ambassador fatuously telling the government that “you are having a conversation with your Turkish family.” (See: http://www.brighteningglance.org/the-american-ambassador-20-june-2013.html).
Soon thereafter, America rushed more tear gas to the black-shirt Turkish police. And who caused this mayhem? Erdoğan flooded the airwaves with lies and nonsense, claiming an international conspiracy was afoot, blaming Israel, the “interest rate lobby,” “internal traitors and external collaborators,” and the social media, calling twitter “an extreme version of lying.” He even blamed the CHP, the main opposition party. But there was even more frantic mud-slinging. He and his henchmen, and henchmen-henchwomen-media fingered extremist fringe groups allied with terrorists, political losers, looters, the Jewish Diaspora, a Serbian civil organization named Otpor!, Mossad, Germany, a theater play called Mi Minor, foreign media, and the strongest Turkish advertising agencies.
At the end of this brutal attack on civil liberties, Erdoğan praised the Gülen thug-police, the Gülen-ista police chief extolling his louts as having saved the nation thus winning the greatest victory since Gallipoli. And performance bonuses were passed all around by the triumphant Erdoğan. This is the same police force now being purged by Erdoğan. And this was the same police chief sacked on the day the corruption scandal broke on 17 December 2013. And the Turkish people are asked to believe Erdoğan's frantic explanations? And now, through his ambassadors, the world will hear it again. Pitiful Erdoğan. Shameful Erdoğan. If only there wasn't a multi-billion dollar corruption... If only AKP ministers and their children were honest... If only his son wasn't involved... If only he had... If, if, if…if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. And we know that Tayyip can’t do that either. So now, again, he does what he does best. He lies. And he will make his ambassadors lie.
Sadly, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan seems to have the same capacity for democratic thinking as he has for truth…ZERO. It seems uncontrollable, pathological even. For the same "containment strategy" of Gezi-lying, he now applies to the “corruption” scandal. He screams. He shouts. He accuses. He rages.
But it’s far more than just corruption. The state itself is held hostage by two liars. The state has failed the Turkish people.
Now, together, these two enemies of the secular Turkish state, these two murderers of Turkish youth, these two enemies of Turkish justice, these two enemies of the Turkish military, these two religious fascists who have falsely imprisoned hundreds of innocent military officers, these two enemies of the truth who have jailed hundreds of journalists, opposition political leaders and outspoken men and women everywhere—anyone actively opposed to their religious fascism, now the nation and the world is asked to believe that Erdoğan and his fellow fascists are merely innocent babes-in-the woods of Turkish politics.
The big question is this. Will the Turkish ambassadorial team, once proudly professional, once respected in the world, will these sworn representatives of the Turkish nation tell the truth? Or, in the face of the truth, will they spew the twisted, rancid nonsense of Erdoğan and further shame the nation? The world awaits.
