He's a real Nowhere Man, Sitting in his Nowhere Land, Making all his nowhere plans For nobody.
Nowhere Man, The Beatles, 1965
He came in stealth wearing a green tie. He leaves in wealth wearing his illusions like a shroud. His gravest illusion was to believe in the American pipe dream that would destroy the secular, democratic republic of Turkey, Nowhere Man’s native land. Well financed, enjoying support from powers foreign and domestic, he has basked in unimagined political glory for ten years. The New York Times did what it was told and had sung his praises like a journalistic Pavarotti. Charismatic! A rock star! An athlete! Courageous! Dynamic Islamic leader! It was all illusory hype. Since his murderous Gezi Park and Syrian fiascos the Times no longer even knows Nowhere Man’s name. Anyone without a hidden agenda to destroy secular Turkey could see the nonsense of Nowhere Man’s American-given mantra of “moderate” Islam. Take the explosions and killings of the Arab Spring for one a bloody example. For another, take the heinous terrorist killings in Syria manically encouraged and financed by, you guessed it, Nowhere Man.
And even schoolchildren could understand that imposing such a radical transformation on a ferociously secular Turkey would never work. Why? Because these kids know their Atatürk by heart! Which so annoyed Nowhere Man that he banned the morning pledge of allegiance, a reinforcement of the guiding principles of secular Turkey, namely diligence and patriotism. The kids know a lot more than the Turkish media, Turkish Army, Turkish judiciary, Turkish police, Turkish politicians, and Turkish collaborationist businesses know. The latter only know what Nowhere Man knows. Am I too harsh? Examine Nowhere Man’s Nowhere Land.
Consider violence. Consider Gezi Park. On orders from Nowhere Man almost 9,000 protestors were injured in violent police attacks by tear gas, tear gas canisters, rubber bullets, live ammunition, water cannon trucks, police clubs, scimitars and beatings. Twelve lost eyes from tear gas shells aimed directly at their faces, a gross violation of international law and common sense. Seven were killed. “Emri ben verdim (I gave the order),” said Nowhere Man. One young man, 26 year-old Ethem Sarısülük, was murdered by a policeman in Ankara. A bullet in his head, in broad daylight, with numerous eyewitnesses, it was even captured on film. All was promptly ignored by whatever masquerades as a justice system in Turkey. No arrests. No trials. No nothing. Standard operating procedure in Nowhere Man’s Nowhere Land. The families of the murdered have brought their collective cases to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. On 23 August Nowhere Man cried on Egyptian television over the death of the daughter of a Muslim Brotherhood politician. Nowhere Man, the national leader who gasses, beats, blinds and kills his own people. He cries abroad and kills at home, this Nowhere Man.
Consider justice in Nowhere Land. The judiciary is packed with political hack judges. The prosecutorial branch is similarly stacked. They are responsible for the miscarriage of justice called Ergenekon and its spinoff farces coined with the help of the CIA as Balyoz (sledgehammer) and Kafes (birdcage). And the police? A travesty stuffed with advocates of Fethullah Gulen, a subversive CIA agent dressed and posing as an Imam. The “Blackshirt” police plants evidence, arrests at will, beats and brutalizes. It is armed with the latest in abusive technology much of it supplied by that self-proclaimed champion of human rights, America. The Nowhere Land police is despised throughout Nowhere Land holding a reputation rivaling historically hated police forces like Savak (Iran), Stasi (East Germany) and the Gestapo (Nazi Germany). But Nowhere Man and his know-nothing hacks praise it as a champion of democracy and a hero of the state, forgetting (or never realizing) that the state consists of the people, not themselves alone. One NoWhere minister announced that the unprecedented Gezi Park brutality of the police was a victory on a par with Gallipoli, thus insulting the peoples’ intelligence, Turkish history, and the Republic of Turkey. A hat trick for ignorance. Nowhere Man agreed with his minister's opinion.
Consider human rights. Please stop laughing. Humans have no rights in Nowhere Land. Except of course those generously given by Nowhere Man. The poor and even the not-so-poor have been granted the right to pray as frequently as humanly possible for Allah to ease their burden in this world. This is one important reason why Nowhere Land has 185,000 mosques, one for every 350 people. It also boasts 90,000 imams, more than it has teachers and physicians. Just drop by a school or hospital and you’ll see the crowds. Incidentally, this worldly burden is not shared by Nowhere Man and his rich, very important Nowhere Friends. They have tons of wealth, much of it having once belonged to the people in the form of state-owned property. Through the miracle of privatization, no doubt a godly gift to gifted politicians, state assets are miraculously transformed into cold, hard cash. Karl Marx politely called this “primitive accumulation.” Not so politely it’s called theft. In the case of Nowhere Land, it’s a theft of the people’s legacy in the assets of their country; their state indeed belongs to them not to the government. Without their tax money there would be no government. Nowhere Man also has a share, but only his share not the people’s share. But in Nowhere Land people have no rights, except as allowed by Nowhere Man. And thus the circle closes on logical reasoning about Nowhere Land.
Other rights granted to the people by Nowhere Man are:
The right to be arrested if, in the opinion of the well-armed police, one seems to be a potential demonstrator.
The right to be beaten, bruised, blinded, slashed, kicked, gassed, poisoned, dragged, eye-gouged and/or arrested if you refuse to have your constitutional right to peacefully assemble revoked.
The right to receive five-year jail terms if you are a student demonstrating for a free education.
The right to be charged with terrorism if you even mumble a word of criticism about Nowhere Man.
The right to have your conversations in any form overheard, monitored and/or recorded by Nowhere Land security operations.
The right to have your yet unwritten and unpublished book cause your imprisonment.
The right to be a writer or journalist and be jailed because Nowhere Man, indeed a heavy reader, disagrees with you.
The right to call anyone who drinks a beer or a glass of rakı a drunk, souse, wino, infidel, sot, degenerate, plunderer, intellectual, poet, homosexual, communist and/or Marxist.
The right not to be served alcoholic beverages after 10 pm.
The right, indeed the responsibility, if one is a female high school student, to not wear skirts to school. Instead, female students have the right to only wear trousers to class. No skirts allowed for female students. And they can wear headscarves if that will make the skirt-trouser transition easier for them. Nowhere Man has not yet opined on the matter of boy equality, that is, whether young men can also wear headscarves AND trousers like the girls do. In their gender-confusion, some boys are now wearing skirts. Even though no skirt=wearing boy has yet been raped by trouser-wearing female students, one cannot rule out this possibility. So say Nowhere Land educational authorities. This is a most troublesome issue that could shake Nowhere Land into further nothingness. Parliamentary committees have been formed. The families of Nowhere Land await their brilliance. (I have exaggerated some details but not the stupidity.)
The right not to read, view, crave, hope or wish for any reading or viewing material deemed offensive by Nowhere Man.
The right not to protest when Nowhere Man continues to destroy rivers, mountains, valleys, fields, trees, flowers, shrubs, wildlife, fish, the air, the nation’s economy, the nation’s international reputation, democracy and students, in particular their hopes and dreams for a better life free from religious and political fascism.
The right not to exist in public space.
The right to bow one’s head like Nowhere Land’s generals do.
The right not to mention, consider, or even remember anything dealing with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The right to go to the mosque no less than five times a day.
The right to have at least three but hopefully five children when married. Or perhaps even if not married. Nowhere Man likes votes and thinks they mean democracy.
The right to obtain a low-paying job that insults one’s intelligence in order to maintain one’s ever expanding family in poverty and despair.
The right not to boo or otherwise yell criticism at public athletic events, particularly at public officials who do not pay for their tickets.
The right to be filmed in what is laughingly called public space.
The right for city dwellers to spend most of their waking lives in traffic jams inhaling poisonous fumes.
The right to continue to finance though the miracle of taxation criminal schemes such as the Syrian fiasco by the Nowhere land government.
Importantly, all of the above “human rights” are guaranteed by Nowhere Man. It is not one's right to not accept Nowhere Man's generosity.
Speaking of schemes, now it’s time to mention what makes Nowhere Land so distinctive, that is, its continuous destruction by Nowhere Man and his Nowhere Plans. Here are a few Nowhere Plans for nobody but Nowhere Man:
Destroying the nation’s autonomy by collaborating with the United States of America in imperialistic adventures that are war crimes according to the Geneva Conventions.
Destroying the secular, social republic of Turkey, with the active support of the United States of America. This is commonly called treason.
Destroying the defense forces of Turkey, that is, the Turkish Army.
Destroying the integrity of the police force by encouraging external religious fundamentalist radicals to control internal security organizations, including the judiciary.
Destroying nature and trees in particular to build roads, airports, bridges, villas and shopping mall and other enemies of civilizations.
Destroying the beautiful Bosporus with luxury hotels, villas and garishly lit bridges and historic buildings.
Destroying the ecology of Istanbul by digging a canal from the Black Sea to the Marmara Sea.
Destroying the nation’s river and lake watershed by dams and hydro electric installations, all a scheme to make even more money.
Destroying the nation’s physical security by constructing nuclear power facilities on geological fault lines.
Destroying small business owners by spreading the economic cancer of shopping malls.
